Abstract

The use of a catheter causes the remaining urine to not be wasted through the catheter which is installed in the patient's urine drain. If left for more than 24 hours there is a risk that bacteria will easily grow in the remaining urine which is not wasted in the catheter. The bacterial species growing in the catheter tract needs to be identified.Bacterial identification is carried out using the manual culture method, because the manual culture method is easy to carry out and the costs involved are also relatively cheap. The aim of this research is to determine the presence of Escherichia coli bacterial infection in the urine of patients who use a catheter for more than 24 hours at the Anton Soedjarwo Hospital, Pontianak.This research uses an exploratory descriptive research method. Of all the urine samples from patients using catheters for more than 24, 36 and 48 hours totaling 32, 7 samples contained Escherichia coli bacteria.There was Escherichia Coli bacteria in the urine of patients with catheter use for more than 24 hours at 0%, 36 hours at 25% and 48 hours at 83%. Overall, 22% of Escherichia Coli bacteria were found in the urine of patients using catheters for more than 24, 36 and 48 hours.
