Abstract
Acne (Acne vulgaris) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit characterized by comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts and scars. The prevalence of acne in Indonesia reached 31.79%, namely there were 43,322 cases. One of the causes of acne is the bacterium Staphylococcus epidermidis. Sambal orange peel contains several compounds that have antibacterial properties such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins and terpenoids. This study aims to determine the effect of the concentration of orange chili peel extract (Citrus microcarpa bunge) on the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. This research method is quasi-experimental with the method of extraction used is maceration with 70% ethanol solvent. The sample for this research was the ethanol extract of orange peel with concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%. Inhibition zone test using disc diffusion method. The results of antibacterial testing of the ethanol extract of orange peel chili obtained at a concentration of 10% had a response that was categorized as moderate, at concentrations of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% had a response that was categorized as strong. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of orange peel has antibacterial activity against the growth of acne-causing bacteria, namely Staphylococcus epidermidis, which is characterized by statistical test results which show a significant difference for each concentration.
