Abstract

Introduction: Dengue Fever (DF) is a disease resulting from Dengue virus infection transmitted to humans through the bites of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Currently, in efforts to limit the spread of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, the use of chemical larvicides remains a primary choice. However, the sustained application of chemical larvicides has the potential to develop resistance in the larvae. The use of natural larvicides could be an option to address the population issue of Aedes aegypti that is resistant to other control methods, including the extract from red guava fruit (Psidium guajava L).Purpose: The objective of this study is to test the larvicidal effectiveness of guava fruit extract against Aedes aegypti larvae. Method: The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental design with a post-test using a control group. The approach involves introducing varying concentrations of guava fruit extract into containers containing Aedes aegypti larvae. Data analysis was conducted using the Kruskal-Wallis statistical method. Results: The results of the study indicate that the extract from red guava fruit has an effective effect in killing Aedes aegypti larvae at various concentrations. At a concentration of 2.5%, there is a mortality rate of 38% among the larvae, while at a concentration of 5.0%, the mortality rate increases to 48%. The concentration of 7.5% shows more significant results with a mortality rate of 76% among the tested larvae. The most effective results are observed at the concentration of 10%, where a total mortality of 83% is recorded among the tested larval population. And the results of the comparison of the percentage of larvae in the sample group at 24 hours of treatment with a p-value < 0.05. Conclusion: The effective concentration of the extract in killing Aedes aegypti larvae within the first 4 hours of observation is 22.3%, which is the LD50 value.
