Abstract
Background: Anemia occurs when the number of red blood cells or hemoglobin concentration is below normal limits. This condition interferes with the blood's capacity to transport oxygen around the body. Anemia is an indicator of poor nutrition and health. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anemia in pregnancy is still very high. The latest data from Riskesdas 2018 shows that around 48.9% of pregnant women experience anemia. The maternal mortality rate (MMR) in West Kalimantan is 240 live births, while the Global SDGs target by 2030 is to reduce the maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births. In 2019, maternal death in West Kalimantan Province reached 117 cases or 130/100,000 live births. Death due to bleeding often occurs due to poor maternal nutrition during pregnancy. Pregnant women who suffer from anemia and chronic lack of energy are at risk of bleeding during childbirth and postpartum. Therefore, it is essential to properly carry out risk detection, monitoring and intervention regarding nutritional cases in pregnant women during pregnancy.
Purpose: to get clinical experiences and important insight from the midwifery care of mild anemia using the seven stages of the Varney model.
Case Report: Comprehensive midwifery care was performed on Mrs D, a patient with mild anemia, and her baby (2 months) from August 11 to December 23, 2022, at the Ida Apianti midwife clinic. The type of the data was primary. The data collecting techniques were anamneses, physical examination, observation, and documentation. The data, then, were analyzed by comparing the data gathered and the existing theory.
Discussion: This case report details the continuity of care for Mrs D using the seven stages of the Varney Model. The phases encompassed the data collection and the assessment to investigate the gap between the case and the theory.
Conclusion: Complete continuity of care has been wholly and procedurally conducted using the seven stages of the Varney model and documented in the SOAP documentation. There was no gap found between the case and theory.
