Abstract

Background: In 2022, the global maternal mortality rate stood at 287,000 deaths, highlighting the urgent need for effective interventions. This translates to approximately 800 deaths each day, which is one death every two minutes. Key factors contributing to maternal mortality during pregnancy include infections (12%), pregnancy-related hypertension (25%), and hemorrhage (30%) (Kartini et al., 2023). Additionally, in the previous year, eclampsia and hypertension during pregnancy were responsible for 16.7% of maternal deaths reported in Pontianak City. Addressing these critical areas through enhanced healthcare access and preventive measures can significantly reduce these tragic losses and improve maternal health outcomes.
Case Report: This study was conducted in Pontianak in the year 2023. The subject of this study was Mrs. R, a 27-year-old female (G2P1A0), who presented with gestational hypertension. Data collection was performed utilizing anamnesis, observation, analysis, and documentation methods. The analysis of the data involved a comparative evaluation against established hypotheses.
Discussion: This report provides an overview of the comprehensive midwifery care administered to Mrs. R in relation to her gestational hypertension, which was evidenced by blood pressure readings exceeding 140/90 mmHg. To effectively manage this condition, the physician advised the patient to commence antihypertensive medications, which are to be maintained until delivery to ensure that blood pressure remains stable throughout the course of the pregnancy.
Conclusion: Midwifery care for Mrs. R has been focused on managing her gestational hypertension. However, there is an opportunity to enhance the alignment between theoretical knowledge and practical care management to improve patient outcomes
