Abstract
Background: The Ministry of Health has reported a concerning 8.9% increase in maternal deaths in Indonesia, rising from 4,627 in 2020. Additionally, the country recorded 20,266 infant deaths. Among maternal deaths, 28.39% (1,330 cases) were attributed to bleeding, 23.86% (1,110 cases) were linked to hypertension during pregnancy, and 4.94% (230 cases) resulted from circulatory disorders.
Case Report: Mrs. C and her neonate received comprehensive care at the Astatin Chaniago maternity clinic in Kubu Raya. This care included monitoring throughout pregnancy, support during childbirth, postpartum care, newborn management, and contraceptive counseling. The documentation of this care was organized using the SOAP method.
Discussion: Providing comprehensive care, or Continuity of Care, throughout the stages of pregnancy, childbirth, the newborn period, and postpartum is essential. The integration of theory and practice was effectively maintained, with patient management consistently aligned with the Varney 7-step method.
Conclusion: Focusing on comprehensive care can greatly enhance health outcomes for mothers and infants throughout the entire process from pregnancy to postpartum. By addressing the underlying factors contributing to maternal and infant mortality, these efforts can lead to a significant reduction in mortality rates and improve the overall health status of family.
