Abstract

Smoking is an attempt to suck and swallow smoke from burned tobacco, or use other types of cigarettes. The population in West Kalimantan is 5.3 million with people who smoke a lot as much as 26.7%. Electric cigarettes are cigarettes that don't burn tobacco as usual, these cigarettes use liquid liquid which is evaporated by heating an electric wire which is capable of producing vapor from the nicotine. This study aims to determine the comparison of platelet counts in conventional cigarette users and e-cigarette users. This type of research uses an analytic observational method with a cross sectional design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a total sample of 30 conventional cigarette users and 30 electric cigarette users. The results showed that there was a comparison of platelet counts in conventional cigarette users and electric cigarette users where the average platelet count in conventional cigarette users was 220,967/mm3 and in electric cigarettes an average value of 287,400/mm3 was still in the normal category. The results of the bivariate analysis test using the unpaired T test on the comparison of platelet counts in conventional cigarette users and e-cigarette users with a degree of ɑ= 0.05 get P= 0.000. Conclusion: There is a comparison of platelet counts in conventional cigarette users and electric cigarette users.
