Abstract
Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that the global maternal mortality rate (MMR) in 2021 was 303,000. In ASEAN countries, the maternal mortality rate stands at 235 per 100,000 live births (Minarti and Ginting, 2023). Data from the Maternal and Child Nutrition and Health Program at the Ministry of Health indicates a consistent annual increase in maternal mortality rates. However, there was a marginal decrease in 2022, with 3,572 reported deaths compared to 7,389 deaths in 2021 (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2023). Similarly, the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) saw a slight increase, reaching 7.87 in 2021 compared to approximately 7.79 per 1000 live births in the preceding year.
Case Report: Mrs. R and her infant received comprehensive care in Pontianak City, encompassing prenatal,
perinatal, postpartum, neonatal, and family planning services. Care documentation adhered to the SOAP
method.
Discussion: Mrs. R received midwifery care in adherence to established standards, which encompassed regular prenatal check-ups at the Sungai Ambawang Health Center and the Marsini Karni maternity clinic. The delivery process was uneventful, with meticulous monitoring utilizing the partograph. Postpartum midwifery care for Mrs. R entailed postpartum visits and contraceptive counseling. Additionally, neonatal midwifery care involved the early commencement of breastfeeding, administration of eye prophylaxis, vitamin K supplementation to prevent intracranial hemorrhage, and HB0 immunization to prevent hepatitis. Conclusion: Mrs. R and her infant received comprehensive midwifery care at the Sungai Ambawang Health Center and the Marsini Karni maternity clinic in Pontianak City in 2023, demonstrating seamless alignment between theory and implementation of midwifery care.
