Abstract
Hematological examination is an important part of the diagnostic process and is used to assess a patient’s health condition. The accuracy of examination results can be influenced by various factors, including pre-analytical factors such as the time interval between sample collection and examination. Delays in blood examination may cause changes in blood cell components. This study aimed to determine the effect of examination delays of 15, 30, and 45 minutes on hematological examination results using EDTA blood samples. This study employed an experimental design with a repeated measures approach, in which examinations were performed repeatedly on the same samples at different examination times. The analyzed parameters included hemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, and hematocrit, using a hematology analyzer. Data were analyzed using the Repeated Measures ANOVA and Friedman tests based on the distribution characteristics of the data, with a significance level of 5% (α = 0.05). The results showed significance values of 0.391 for hemoglobin, 0.372 for erythrocytes, 0.589 for leukocytes, 0.531 for platelets, and 0.201 for hematocrit. All parameters had p-values > 0.05, indicating no statistically significant differences between the immediate examination results and those obtained after delays of 15, 30, and 45 minutes. In conclusion, delays of up to 45 minutes did not have a statistically significant effect on hemoglobin, erythrocyte, leukocyte, platelet, or hematocrit examination results in EDTA blood samples.
